People’s Democratic Movement leader Douglas Parnell alleged on September 28, 2026, that the government misled Parliament regarding its financial exposure linked to the InterHealth Canada dispute. He claims the true liability, which he estimates could exceed $200 million, was not properly disclosed in national budgets or to the United Kingdom government.
At a press conference, Parnell argued that withholding contractual payments to InterHealth while failing to report the resulting risks constituted a breach of transparency. He stated, “Parliament has been misled about the true financial exposure associated with this dispute.” The government maintains it paid all clinical costs, attributing withheld funds to performance issues regarding estates services. Parnell contends this strategy ignores potential employment-related costs and arbitration outcomes, asserting that the Minister of Finance and Minister of Health Kyle Knowles must now produce financial records to substantiate their reporting.
Parnell is calling for both the Minister of Finance and Minister of Health to be relieved of their portfolios while the accuracy of financial information presented to Parliament and the United Kingdom is independently investigated. He demands the government disclose its current liability estimates and the basis for those calculations. He insists that records, rather than rhetoric, must determine if the national budgets for 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 accurately reflected the risks known to the government at the time.
