Satellite broadband provider Starlink Caribbean LLC officially entered the Turks and Caicos Islands market on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after receiving its operating licences. The move aims to boost internet access across outer islands and ensure communication backup during hurricanes.
A ceremony at The Alexandra Resort in Providenciales marked the signing and presentation of Starlink's Satellite Service Licence and Spectrum Licence. Minister responsible for Telecommunications Shaun Malcolm stated that satellite technology will supplement fixed and mobile networks rather than replace them, especially in areas where laying traditional infrastructure is difficult. He noted that satellite links will provide an essential alternative path for families and emergency crews when hurricanes or other disasters knock out conventional towers.
Telecommunications Commission Chairman Clayton Been explained that regulators consulted operators, satellite providers, and the public before issuing the framework. Been said Starlink must comply with all local telecom laws, licence conditions, and regulatory requirements, emphasizing that true competition should deliver better pricing, reliability, and customer choice.
