CBS Sports and former NFL analyst Tony Romo have mutually ended their professional relationship, effective October 9, 2026. This decision follows the broadcaster's arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Wisconsin on July 23, 2026, and his subsequent no-contest plea to the civil charge on September 1, 2026.
Romo, 46, served as the network's lead analyst since 2017 after a career as a Dallas Cowboys quarterback. Following the July arrest, CBS Sports placed him on indefinite leave. In a statement regarding his departure, Romo noted that his career-ending back injuries and subsequent pain management led to an over-reliance on alcohol. CBS Sports confirmed that J.J. Watt will continue to work with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and reporter Tracy Wolfson for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season.
