Minister of Innovation, Technology and Energy E. Jay Saunders will travel to South Korea during the week of October 19, 2026, to attend the Global AI & Digital Summit. Invited by the World Bank, the Minister plans to explore artificial intelligence applications to modernize public services and weather forecasting across the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Saunders will tour technological facilities including the Anyang Smart City Integrated Control Center to observe AI-powered public safety and robotics. He has also consulted with Director of Meteorology Dr. Holly Hamilton regarding AI-driven weather models to enhance early warning capabilities. Regarding potential benefits, the Minister stated, “The low hanging fruits for AI in TCIG are improved customer service including 24x7 government services.” He identified tourism and healthcare as additional sectors where digital efficiency could be improved through new technology.
While the World Bank covers the visit, no specific AI projects have been authorized for implementation. Any initiatives identified during the trip must first be presented to the Cabinet for review. If the Cabinet supports a proposal, the Ministry must then secure the necessary budgetary approval before any local introduction can proceed.
