Carnival Cruise Line and the LJM Maritime Academy hosted a free two-week learn-to-swim program in August 2026 to improve water safety skills among Bahamian adults. Held at the academy’s pool in Nassau, the initiative successfully trained nearly 60 participants in essential techniques led by certified lifeguards.

Carnival provided all equipment, while instructors from the Celebration Key Water Safety Team led the sessions. Philcher Grant, Director of Public Affairs for Carnival in The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, noted the program addresses the necessity of water safety in an island nation. Water Safety Manager Valentino Strachan confirmed that all participants mastered the fundamentals of strong swimming form. The initiative aligns with Carnival’s strategy to invest in local communities through education, with attendees already expressing hope for future sessions.
