The Turks and Caicos Islands Fire and Rescue Service (TCIFRS) has officially authorized construction to resume at the Andaz Hotel and Condominium Project. This decision follows a comprehensive fire investigation and the successful implementation of new safety protocols throughout the development site on September 21, 2026.
To ensure compliance, the Fire Service mandated a strict Construction Fire Safety and Prevention Program, which included a Method Statement and a Corrective Action Plan. Following several meetings, TCIFRS crews and project personnel performed unannounced fire simulations on the fourth floor of the hotel and the third floor of the condominium building. Fire Chief Dr. Hezedean Smith stated that the progress demonstrated reflects a "positive commitment to protecting workers, emergency responders, investors, and the wider community." Minister of Public Safety, Gender and Religious Affairs and Social Welfare Shaun Malcolm also praised the collaborative effort, noting that the approved safety framework will serve as a model for future developments across the islands.
TCIFRS officials will continue to conduct follow-up inspections at the site to ensure all required fire-safety measures remain fully operational. The project management team confirmed that no injuries occurred during the initial incident, and they remain focused on maintaining high safety standards for all staff and the surrounding community.
