The Turks and Caicos Islands Government plans to spend $1.4 million on Engine Hill Road in Five Cays, the route connecting Five Cays Road to South Dock Road, Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development Minister Arlington "Chuck" Musgrove has told The SUN.
About $4 million more is being considered for Belmont Road, Tanna Street, Panorama Road and Admiral's Road under the Government's investment appraisal process, which would bring potential Five Cays road investment to some $5.4 million. Engine Hill is being advanced through the upcoming Secondary Roads Phase 2 procurement. Traffic around Enid Capron Primary School is congested at morning drop-off, with residents reporting delays of more than 30 minutes.
Musgrove told Parliament the previous week that approximately $100 million of the proposed $350 million borrowing package would go to infrastructure, supporting roads and drainage, serviced land, airport capacity, all four phases of South Dock and coastal protection. He said $6 million had been allocated to community roadworks in Whitby, The Bight and Electoral District 7, including Industrial Drive, Cooper Jack Drive, Old Airport Road and roads in Kew Town. He said the spending was meant to build assets "that outlive the loan that paid for them."
