Ashley’s Learning Center closed the 2025-26 school year with a net surplus of $22,129, down nearly 70% from $72,732, as the Turks and Caicos Islands special-needs school absorbed rising operating costs while pressing ahead with expansion plans.
Chairman Ben Avenant’s annual report shows operating costs rose 8.7% to $406,400 in the year ended July 31, 2026, while income slipped 1.9% to $450,301. Payroll was the largest expense at $270,213, maintenance and utilities reached $32,271 and bad debt $32,331. Tuition income climbed 59.2% to $82,000 and event income to $29,530, while donations contributed $159,221, or 35.4% of income. Deneicia Harris was appointed principal.
Priorities for 2026-27 include strengthening faculty and leadership, completing the expansion, broadening educational and therapeutic services and building a more diverse funding base. The longer-term aim is a permanent, purpose-built home for the school. “It is an ambitious goal, but the progress achieved this year,” Avenant said.
