The owners of Amanyara have launched a Supreme Court fight to overturn the planning approvals for billionaire Vladislav Doronin's proposed $250 million Janu resort at Northwest Point in Providenciales. On July 27, 2026, Mr. Justice Chris Selochan granted the Amanyara companies leave to apply for judicial review.
Caicos Resorts Ltd., CR Hotel Ltd. and Caicos Resorts Villas Ltd., whose beneficial owner is Mortimer Sackler of the Sackler family, are challenging three decisions: the Physical Planning Board's referral of application PR 18756 to the Governor in Cabinet, Cabinet's approval of it, and the Board's conditional approval of PR 18942. They argue the approvals breached the Physical Planning Act, conflicted with the National Physical Development Plan, and failed to consider planning and environmental issues, and that Cabinet committed itself before the statutory process finished. Doronin, who owns Aman Group, backs the Janu project through Northwest TCI Holdings Ltd. but holds no stake in Amanyara. The respondents are the Physical Planning Board, the Attorney General and Northwest TCI Holdings Ltd.
The leave ruling does not decide whether the approvals were lawful; it means the challenge raises arguable issues and proceeds to a full hearing. Its outcome could determine whether the Janu approvals stand or are set aside, for a development whose construction had been expected to begin later this year.
